The internet is littered with false promises. Finding a good home business work opportunity is really like finding a needle in the haystack. Then, every now and again when you read about someone who makes thousands every month you start to think. Is it really possible? Is it really so or is it just another one of those people who got lucky.

The world is definitely changing and the days of finding one job for life is over. The internet has changed the dynamics for good and if you have the need and desire to work from home then there really are some great opportunities. The idea of a home business is definitely not a new one. In many ways the Middle ages was the start of the “home business” where you would have a shop on the ground floor and your living quarters above.

The demands of modern living is once again compelling many of us to seek the same convenience. Having kids to look after, long commutes to work or even just financial compensation makes it really worth looking into a home business work opportunity. Lets look at three approaches you can follow.

1. Multi-Level Marketing
This is frowned upon by many simply because there where so many scammy programs in the past. It is however one of the most stable and longest running business models for working from home. Avon is just one example of a worldwide brand that has seen many super successful work from home moms. What I like about multi level marketing is the fact that you plug into a proven business. They give you training and support you in a way that you cannot find anywhere else.

What I do not like about it is the fact that it can take a lot of time to get some traction. Since you rely on a downline it can take time and many people do not like the idea of it. The “selling” is also a problem that many people never get the hang of. However, if and when you do this can be a very lucrative business model with a very low barrier of entry.

2. Home Based Business
Franchising is arguably the least risky way to start a business. Its estimated that 90% of all new businesses fail within the first two years. By buying into a franchise you almost eliminate this risk. Not all franchises lend themselves to a home based setup but there are more than enough to choose from. Many gardening services or cleaning businesses can be bought into and run from your home.

What I don’t like about it is the fact that buying into a franchise costs money – often a lot of money. You also have to abide by the rules of the franchise which can be a bit stifling if you are someone who needs more freedom in their decision making. However, the fact that you can buy a profitable business goes a long way and getting the business model and expertise is priceless to success.

3. Online Business
The idea of an online business is actually a far reaching one. There are so many different ways to make money online and an online business can be something as simple as selling advertising space on your blog or something as complicated as creating and selling software. There are many business models for making money online and for the most part they are all legit and they all have a lot of potential. Its all about finding something that suits you as a person and something that falls into your skill level and expertise.

What I don’t like about online businesses is the fact that it requires technical skills. It depends on what you do off course but there is almost always a technical component that is enough to scare many people off. Another thing that I do not like and that makes this very hard is the competition. There are so many people all over the world (remember that the internet is a level playing field for all) trying the same things that you can often find it hard to get traction.

An online business has a very low barrier to entry though and you can get up and running for very little money. It allows you to put in “sweat equity” instead of cash.

Finding a good home business work opportunity is all about finding what suits you as a person. Within each of these three areas there are many people who got very rich. You can too. It won;t come easy but if you have the desire and the commitment then you too can do it.
